what are you using for tensioning the branches. Is it Nylon or regular wire?

thats the thinnest copper wire, .75 mm.

when is the best time root prune when your going to reduce the size of the big roots to fit in a decent bonsai pot.

When the buds just begin to stretch. This depneds on he general climate, microclimate and condition of the tree. Here it is around the middle of April.
