European spruce # 54

Finally I wired the thing a second time. A couple of weeks ago I showed it after the wire came off and I had throughly edited the crown. Someone critisized me for having taken of too much. I admit it looked like it. But now one can see that with my kind of styling the crown looks like it has enough foliage again. I think it does not need much more in the future. Now the wire will stay on another three years. And then we'll see. The last image is a virtual showing the same pot by Peter Krebs, only much smaller. Maybe next spring I will find the smaller pot for it.

European spruce, Picea abies, collected by peter Thali in in Switzerland 2001, around 100 years old, pot by Peter Krebs, 30 cm high.

Spruce by Alex

This is a European spruce, Picea abies, which I have collected in 1994. It sat around for many years and noone wanted to work with it. Finally Alex started with it a few weeks ago. Here is the result after first serious stying. Good job Alex!

spruce # 20

The deadwood was edited somewhat, the spirals in the trunk are now clear. Then he wood was treated with my new bleaching liquid. Now it has the real wood look and not the white bonsai wood appearance. One has to get used to it. It is like the girl without make up.

The spruce in the wooden pot

Roland Koepfer had shown his wooden pots in the German bonsai forum some time ago. They tore him to pieces. I seemed to have been the only one who saw some value in wooden pots. So he gave two to me. Here is one with a collected European spruce, Picea abies which is around 100 years old and 60 cm high.
See more of Roland here: Roland's site

ponderosa # 3

Ponderosa pine, Pinus ponderosa, collected in Colorado in 1999. First image 2001.a few days ago I plucked all the old needles (yes, I even pluck ponderosa needles and do not use scissors). Then I wired the tree for the second time. The last image shows a virtual with a possible new pot.

mugo parade

All these are collected mugo pines, Pinus mugo. All are in shohin size, meaning smaller than 25 cm. Some will have to get wired again soon.
