If I remember correctly, the one in the second photo has seen much better days. What happened?
Oh yes, 'Reiner the Bear' has suffered for a few years. Now it's slowly coming back. In two or three years it will be showable again. What was the problem? I am not so sure. But I fed and watered it aggressively, stopped to pinch new growth and it recovered. From whatever. Such is bonsai. Ask an expert if you find one.We know that we don't know. I often rescue trees by being very nice to them without knowing what their problem really was.
