Some of Alex' trees

Today Alex brought the trees that he plans to exhibit at the Bavarian Bonsai Convention in November.

A Korean hornbeam, pot by Josef Mairhofer
gingko, pot by Horst Heinzlreiter
Scots pine, pot by Josef Mairhofer

the ginko in this state is what we call a 'hammer tree'.

The term hammer tree doesn't seem to translate readily to English, at least. I thought it meant a powerful tree.

Well, it is a bonsai that hits you like a hammer when you see it. It's a killer tree in English.
