Walter,
Quite an amazing tree! It has gone through many changes since you acquired it. Do you think that trees such as this continue to build a more impressive image with regular maintenance and time, or do you always make major adjustments such as reducing numbers of branches as they become very dense? I ask because I believe this tree would appear larger and more impressive if the foliage were reduced and more (I hate to say pads) texture to the silhouette was created. The tree is a true masterpiece by any judge!!
Cheers,
Matthew

Mathew,
eventually the foliage will have to be reduced considerably. My old mugos are all becoming too dense. This is a luxury problem. The overwhelming majority of mugos are too sparse.
