dogwood #3

European common dogwood, Cornus mas, found on a parking lot in 2001 in Germany after someone ran over it and left it on the ground. Subsequently the huge clumsy trunk was carved extensively. Two years ago the upper part of the crown died. But the rest is still presentable after the deadwood shows nice patina and looks realistic. This is in the Fairy Tale Bonsai Style. It will need a decent pot eventually.

Why did the crown die?

Good question - if I only knew the answer. I suppose it did not want to continue to live.

Actually a dogwood is not a real tree it is rather a shrub. Unfortunately most shrubs have this bad habit of making unexpected decisions eventually.
