Oriental hornbeam #10
Oriental hornbeam, Carpinus orientalis, collected in 2009. This looks like it will be a most impressive bonsai.

It looks a very small shallow pot for such a recently collected tree: the tree is obviously very healthy - did it already have a compact fibrous rootball when you collected it?
Dave, these have very few roots when collected. The vast majority survives and develops lots of new roots very quickly. This is an ideal species for bonsai.
