Flowering ash, Fraxinus ornus, collected in Italy. this year it looks like it has a dozen flower buds. I look forward to see the flowers finally on this tree in the beginning of May.

Hi Walter,
I was wondering how do you distinguish flowering from leaf buds on F. ornus? I have this species for 5-6 years, but it has never flowered in the pot.
On Hobi bonsai forum we have Photo Herbarium - so on this link you can see ash images (tree, buds, flowers, leaves, bark, fruit ...) Fraxinus ornus

Marija,

the flower buds are on the end of the branches, but they are clearly bigger than the normal terminal buds. I already had some flowers on this tree in summer of 2008.

I have noticed bigger buds in apex of each branch, but never get flowers and leaves from it, but only leaves. Obviously, you have more luck ;-)
