nice development of maple

Very nice development of this trident maple, Acer burgerianum in only twelve months. This will become a very natural looking informal broom form.

Walter,

The tree has really come up very well. I think I had seen an earlier post of this tree with complete leaves (?)

Btw, the 2nd pic shows lot of thin material used for training. What exactly are these....wire or nylon thread?

Shaukat,

these are copper wires. They are not beautiful but very practical. I use these for trees which are very far in their development already. In early development I wire everything the normal way. But after many years it is often just a matter of slight adjustments. The trikc is to exaggerate the adjsutment. Meaning, if you want a branch to come down a bit you put this guy wire on and bring it down MORE than a bit. After a year you take off the guy wire and the branch will jump back slightly. Exactly into the positon you wanted him anyway.

Walter,

Thank you very much for your elaboration. I have learned something that is very practical and effective.

I presume many sensitive branches will also do good with such type of wiring.

I will try these on some of my stuff too. :)
