winter protection

Lots of folks ask em about winter pritection. They are deeply concerned about doing the right thing. Well this here is what I consider the right thing for species which are hardy. I place them under the benches or next to the house in the shade. That's it. But this only applies to species which can tolerate their roots to be frozen stiff.

more winter

winter is here

This is very unusual for this time of the year. It is not cold, however, just around freezing temperature. This is quite fiene for trees and for me. Thanks God, Alex and I filled the greenhouse two days ago an put most of the trees on the ground.

this warms my heart

This photgraph was taken in light rain. You can see the wet trunk. But I don't know whether this was not my last chance this year. All it takes is a lot of rain and wind and the foliage is gone.

winter thoughts

Besides still making fall photos this is is the time of the year when there is not much to do in the garden. Now is the time to contemplate changes of some trees. This trident maple found it's way into my garden this past summer. I did not have too much time to study it without foliage. Now I have decided to make the crown quite larger, making the bonsai look like a real maple.

1) as of now
2) these are the dimensions of the future crown. The pot will be too small
3) with a bigger pot it looks fine. Decision made!
