This maple was mcuh higher and it lost the major part of the trunk. I wondered whether it would ever become a decent bonsai. It was declared "useless" by a couple of experts who saw it in my garden. Wolfgang was one of them. Wolfgang, are you watching??

Thymus bonsai

This thymus (I think it is 'vulgaris') was collected in Italy from the wild. I got it in a trade last fall. Today in a couple of hours this is what I did. I this only 15 cm high, a shohin. The new pot is by Dan Barton. An instant bonsai. They absolutely hate to be wired or disturbed in any way. So the only thing to do with them that makes sense is just cutting back.

Valentine flowers

My hibiscus bonsai had these bright flowers just in time on Valentine's Day.

two mighty dogwoods

These dogwoods were collected in Hungary. Tehy are coming vey nicely. The first one already has some flower buds this year for the first time. It will have a new front maybe this spring. The third image is a virtual to show how it would loook with the new front.
The last one was done only 10 months ago and is coming fine.

more larches

This year the larches look much better than usaully. Normally there are always many ugly guy wires. I work under the notion that it does not matter what a bonsai looks like NOW as long as I am doing the right things to make it look very good eventually. It seems that today is 'eventually'. Anyway, no wires this time.

Chinese elm rescue

This bonsai has won many awards. Two years ago it lost almost the whole top and I basically gave it up. Now it's coming again. Lena and David have done the main work here. The last image is a virtual to see how the new front would look like. Not so good on the picture as in reality though.

Since we have the warmest February ever I have started to work with the trees outside. The drastic deadwood work that I had done last year looks pretty impressive only 12 months later already. But the tree is too high and the main trunk too straight. Let's see what we can do here.
