Back from Bonsai Academy in Croatia
Marija and Andrija from Kastela near spit in Croatia are known by now pretty well in the European bonsai scene. Five years ago they have started to work whit me in the International Bonsai Academy. After two acceptances for Noelanders Trophy and one acceptance for Bonsai Autumn they had their coming out as bonsai artists. At Bonsai Autumn they even won a Dragon award plus an award of the Bonsaimuseum Dusseldorf for the most natural looking tree in the exhibit. As a consequence they were invited to have a special exhibit in the museum for six weeks in the museum and provide eight or more trees. Last year it was difficult to come up with that number of presentable trees. But now they are ready. Over the past weekend we have worked hard to select twelve trees and get them in shape. One has to consider that these tree were only collected from six months ago to five years ago. Therefore some are still in early development stage, while already presentable somehow.
Anyway, I'm very happy with my students and wish them god luck.
See how these trees were prepared and how we worked on many other trees over four days.

Treat yourself: Academy in Harrisburg Nov. 30 - Dec 2
If your candidate won you must be happy and ready for an adventure. Treat yourself with a workshop in Harrisburg.
If your candidate lost you must be bitter and frustrated. You need something to cheer you up. Treat yourself with a workshop in Harrisburg.
Winter with Walter and Jim will be held again from Friday, November 30 to Sunday, December 2 at Nature's Way Nursery in Harrisburg, PA. Bonsai Academy with bring your own workshop and also workshop with trees from the nursery.
Call Nature's Way Nursery (Jim Doyle) for more information and signing up:
(717) 545-4555
or write:
Nature's Way Nursery - natureswaybonsai@comcast.net
It will be possible to participate as
- full member two days
- full member one day
- silent observer for a fee one or two days
- lurker for free for 20 to 30 minutes to see what's going on and to decide whether you want to participate immediately or later
It will be possible to purchase exquisite collected American material right then for everyone. You don't need to take part in the Bonsai Academy for that. There will be a special discount just on these days.
There are about 300 collected trees there. A few dozen are outright world class, many very good, all hand selected by myself. There are over 150 trees in the range from US$ 45 to 600, about 50 from 600 to 1,500. Everybody can find himself a genuine American collected tree. Ponderosa pines, Rocky Mountein junipers, Engelman spruce and many other native species are availble
They give guarantee for recently collected stuff as long as you leave it in the nursery - money back or credit in case the tree did not make it. There are over 150 collected trees which are very well established and can be worked on right away.
I am not aware whether there is a nursery in all of America which has such a lot quality collected stuff to offer. East of the Rockies Nature's Way Nursery is THE source for quality collected trees.
I look forward to see you all there.
