In the cliffs again - part 2
Then comes the drag to get it down to the car. You cannot overestimate the sweat this created. Don't you think that it is easy to walk down an extremely steep hill with a cradle. At one point Alex really has had it.

Today was the next round to hunt for sabina junipers. If you think that this is dangerous I would not disagree.

development of hornbeam from Croatian demo
Many have seen this demo on youtube. Some were disappointed. They could not understand why I had ended up with such an ugly tree. Well, this is very often what one has to do in bonsai to get a very good looking tree in the end. It was the purpose of the demonstration to show this.
Here the recent development. This will give you some hope. But there are still about 5 to 10 years to go.

Elegant spruce literati
This European spruce (Picea abies) was collected in Switzerland in 1985. It was sitting in soemone's garden since then. I acquired the tree in 2005.
1) and 2) spring of 2005
3) planted into a nice pot by Derek Aspinall right away.
4) and 5) in late summer of 2007 the spruce looks very healthy. It has gained enormously in ramification. I think it is ready for final styling.
6) to 9) It has several good sides
10) to me this is the best one at the moment. The wedge is not part of the desing, of course, and I have erased it on the virtual. There are several spirals in the bulge in the middle. The bulge is ugly and eventually the spirals will appear. At the monent it is nto definitely clear where they are and I will let the tree decide. I have painted a couple on the virtual so we can see the future.

dramatic changes planned
Many will know my formal upright spruce. Here a picture as of August 2007. I am seriously considering to plant it onto a wonderful stone in about ten days. Mid-August is a vry good time to repot European spruce in my area. I am even thinking of getting this ready for the Gingko Award in September of 2007.

2) and 3) this stone found it's way into my garden this spring. It has two great sides. The one where it is balancing in the air is really dramatic.
4) I have attached aluminum wire to it
5) this looks kind of silly. But one can lift the stone with holding the wires. This is industrial super glue. It is not the normal stuff that one gets. It is very expensive, but really does the job.
6) This is my plan. I made the virtual to make sure the proportions are right. Therw is enough room on the stone and there is a good hollow that can hold enough substrate. Looks cool to me.

Hawthorn is coming
This is a Europen hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna. They grow like weeds in some parts of Europe. In England, Wales and Ireland one can find them in areas where sheep are grazing since centuries. The sheep bite the hawthorns and make them outstanding bonsai material. This one comes from England where it was collected in the year 2004. I acquired the tree in fal of 2005.

Late summer meeting on Saturday, August 25
As every year bonsai enthusasts will meet in Attenham, south of Munich, Germany on the last Saturday of August. From 9 am to 6 pm lots of things will happen. Everybody is invited who is a serious bonsaiist ar wants to become one. It is not necessary to inform me of your coming.
This is a meeting among friends, a bosnai party, not a commercial thing. It costs nothing, of course. So what is on? Primarily one can see my collection, a few hundred styled trees and in addition lots of raw material. Some you can see under http://walter-pall.de . Then you can meet lots of folks. There will be some demos and tree critiques which I call tree inspirations. Everybody can bring tees which will be discused and possibly styled a bit. This can be anything from raw material, stick in a pot to world class masterpiece. Lots of handmdade pots will be for sale.

Vor allem kann man meine Sammlung sehen, einige hundert Bäume, gestaltet und viel Rohmaterial. Einige sind unter http://walter-pall.de zu sehen. Dann kann man viele Leute treffen. Es werden Vorführungen stattfinden, sowie Baumbesprechungen. Jeder kann Bäume mitbringen, die besprochen und ev. gestaltet werden. Das können Bonsai vom Rohmaterial, Baumarktbonsai bis zu Wunderbäumen sein.
