oriental hornbeam #36

Oriental hornbeam, Carpinus orientalis, acquired in October 2013 (first image). Now the tree is on a good way, I think.

Hi Walter

Do the c. orientalis resist the frost? Or do they have the problems in winter like acer buergerianum?

greets Thomas

Thomas, they are a little more hardy than trident maples. They need some frost protection, especially against late frosts.

Dave,

this is indeed a small tree, only 35 to 40 cm high. Due to the very small leaf size oriental hornbeams are some of the best species for this size bonsai.
