Walter Pall's main blog about bonsai and his work with trees from day to day. Lots of good pictures of good trees and lots of valuable information about bonsai.
Would you consider cutting off the two large branches and consequently developing the right side anew?
That's the very last thing I would do. I would castrate the tree. It would be just another log with big scars and no movement. This is Fairy Tale Bonsai Style. It's perfect as it is.
It could as well be a fairytale style, as you call it. But as far as bonsai goes, it's bullsh*t style. It's a last refuge of a self-proclaimed skill. Sadly.
Oh, and regarding castration... I didn't know that bonsai was a sexual thing. If it was, you would've had to abandon it, say, a quarter of a century ago.
Oh, and one last thing. Perfection. It would've been (even more) perfect left alone, in the wild, not all (artificially) tuned up in a pot. That's kitch, not perfection.
Marinko, I love your comments.
Respect, from Portugal.
Bonsai live can be so hard for some people. Interesting in which ways mr. Palls trees are touching the audience.
