European spruce #4 in new pot

European spruce, Picea abies, collected in Austria in 1997. First image of 2001. The old Chinese pot is a very fine one, but not so much for this kind of tree. It was too small and too deep. The new pot by Derek Aspinall enhances the elegance I believe.

European spruce #34 in better pot

European spruce, Picea abies, collected in Austria in 1997. First image of 2000. The old pot by Derek Aspinall is a very fine one, but not so much for this kind of tree. The new pot by Gabriele Wirth from Germany enhances the elegance I believe. In late summer next year the crown will be fully wired again.

Prunus #16 in bonsai pot finally.

Wild cherry, Prunus mahaleb, collected in Slovenia in 2011. This is a nice tree. Finally it went into this Chinese glazed pot which is fine, I think. The crown will be finally fully wired in late spring 2014. It would be too much stress now after repotting and before the winter.

Prunus #14 finally in bonsai pot.

Wild cherry, Prunus mahaleb, collected in Italy in 2011. This is a nice sumo tree. Finally it went into this Chinese glazed pot which is fine, I think. The crown will be finally fully wired in late spring 2014. It would be too much stress now after repotting and before the winter.

Whata Pull Bonsai and the Socrates Analogy

INTERNATIONAL BONSAI ACADEMY with Walter Pall 2013 - Case Study 5/Hedera...

New great spruces

Many people slow down with their bonsai collection after they are 60 years old. Many reduce the collection and some give up. I do the contrary (as so often). I speed up the additions. Here six new European spruces, Picea abies. I must have a lot to work within the next twenty years, at least. These trees will require a great deal of work. They were all collected in the Alps in spring of 2013. By now one can see whether they will make it or not. These all look very happy, already have lots of good buds for next year. They will now be left as they are. I gave them a big feeding shot with a couple handful of chicken do pellets each. They will overwinter without protection and next summer I can start to do some serious stuff with them. This will be mostly uncovering the nebaris and deadwood work. Serious bending will start to happen in 2015. I hardly can wait and feel like this child at Christmas. Many will see that they are big but will not see the potential. Just trust me, these are top treess. Every single one has the potential to become a really good and famous bonsai. I will report the progress, of course.

Great progress on Facebook

Ten days ago I have decided to move from a private Facebook presence to a fan-site. I am very happy with the results after only ten days:

1,060  people in a week have 'liked' my site and are thus members
over 17,000 individuals in a week have seen my contributions or derivatives
1,350 individuals in a week 'speak' about my contributions on the net.

Thank you for participating. These are numbers that sites would like to have which are existing since years. But this is only the beginning. I will continue to post interesting subjects about bonsai on FB in parallel to my blog. The blog with sub-blogs will stay because there are too many folks who refuse to be on FB, but will read blogs. I will continue to write on bonsai forums here and there, but I believe that these have become tertiary in todays bonsai communication. So far my blog-followers will not miss anything. Everything worthwhile I will continue to post on the blog, most subjects will then alos be posted on FB afterwards. What you are actually missing are numerous remarks and contributions on FB to my threads.
