new Scots pine

At the place of Uli Ernst I found this Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and now it is in my garden. The first thing I did was to take it out of the huge container in which it had been since five years. The round drum pot is much closer to a final pot. Now I will leave it alone for a year and style it in 2008 if it looks happy then.
One thing we can learn from this: buy a tree as long as it is in the ground or in a big container. You may find a wonderful hidden nebari and the value rises.

The fat hawthorn part 3

At the beginnign of April 2007 I took it out of the original pot where it was sitting in an awkward position. I put it into this oval training pot. Now I will leave it alone for a couple of years and then we will see.

The fat hawthorn part 2

I immediately started to work on it. The branches were extemely chaotic and I started to get some sort of order in them. Also some of the stumps were too long and too fat. So i carved a lot.

The fat hawthorn part 1

This hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) originally comes from England, where they hack them out of ancient hedges. It came to Switzerland and was sitting in the offering area of Pisu Notter for many years. Nobody seemed to dare to tame the best. Well, it certainly does not lend itself to normal classical bonsai styling. But it could be a very interesting tree. So I bought it in fall of 2006.

Here the pictures as of September 2006

apple tree of Alex, my assistant

Alex brought this crab apple (Malus halliana) to choose a pot for it. I made a professional photograph for him while it was here.

New pot for the snake

The old pot by Horst Heinzlreiter was brilliant, but the optical weight of it was too big, I felt. The new one by Petra is much smaller.

New pot for the high mugo

The pot by Peter Krebs that I showed recently was used for a quite high mugo. I have sold this tree, but I am still taking care of it.

back again

I am back in my garden again. Have repotted 20 trees today and taken some pictures which will follow. See the travelogues for my adventures.
