Field maple, Acer campestre, after three years of development. As one can see it is absolutely NOT necessary to use any wound sealant.

Deutzia gracilis, from an ordinary garden shrub since 2005.

honeysuckle loking good

Wild honeysuckle, Lonicera xylostemum. This has come a long way from March 2004. This is an absolutely underestimated species. You hardly eve see one as bonsai. But as the pictures show one can develop a good bonsai in five years, just like they do with tropical material.

hornbeams

European hornbeam, Carpinus betulus. Both collected. The first one on the zenith of it's development after more than twenty years and the second one pretty much in the beginning still.

new features added: search and subscribe

Google now offers new features for blogs which I have used immediately.

You can now do a google search for the blog with 'search this blog'. This is very useful, taking the fact into account that by now we have a couple thousand posts already. I myself find it difficult to find the right post. With this feature it is easy. Just insert any word and click.

The other feature is the 'subscribe now'. Many folks go to this site every day, some several times just to see whether something is new. If you subscribe you will know that something is new whenever it appears.

Articles now appearing according to language

Google blogs offers a new feature, called labels.  This allows to not only show threads according to posting date but also in what they call 'labels'. So now I have arranged the articles according to the languages. The user first clicks onto his preferred language and then articles in this language only appear.

the best small dogwood

European dogwood, Cornus mas, only 12 cm, 5 inches, way over 50 years old, formed by goats over decades.
This is the most promising one of all the little ones. Thank you goats!

very cold outside

It became quite cold within the past couple days. This night we had minus 14 Celsius. This is getting too cold for the hornbeam which is waiting for the Noelanders Trophy. So I put it into the greenhouse.

great new material: ashes and maple

The first two are flowering ashes, Fraxinus ornus, 35 and 16 cm high. They are both for sale or trade.
The third is a French maple, Acer monspessulanum.

I am so very happy with all those new additions to my collection. These will all become great small bonsai in the next few years. I love to work with small ones besides my very large trees.

Great small material: hornbeams

These are oriental hornbeams, Carpinus orientalis. They are around 30 cm high (12 inches) and will become great medium sized bonsai.
